Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: We depart from your Broken Hill accommodation at 8.30am and travel through the ever changing local countryside. We stop for morning tea in a picturesque dry creek bed and then resume our journey on to Mutawintji National Park, located 130km from Broken Hill amidst the rugged Bynguano Ranges.

Mutawintji (pron. moota win jee) is an Aboriginal name which means "place of green grass and waterholes" and is an area of great historical significance. It was the first National Park in NSW to be returned to it’s traditional owners. Aboriginal rock engravings and hand stencil galleries are reminders of the many centuries of Aboriginal occupation of the area. Abundant wildlife is attracted by the shade and water and relics of early European settlement are a feature of the area.

The park highlights include a visit to the Cultural Centre and hearing about the creation of Mutawintji during the Dreamtime, followed by a bush walk to both the Engravings Site and the Stencils Site. The remnants of ancient Aboriginal fire places and stone tool making provides visitors with an insight into the traditional way of life for generations of Aboriginal people.

Then at mid afternoon, its' back on board the vehicle as we travel to White Cliffs, an opal-mining town steeped in history and hardship. Your accommodation is at the famous Underground Motel, an experience you will never forget. (L,D)

Day 2: Today we continue our tour of White Cliffs, taking in some of the unique sights and meeting some real outback characters. We'll visit the Solar Power Station, an underground museum and mine, Outback Treasures opals and jewellery, take a drive through the working opal fields, and much more.

We finish the day with a leisurely drive back to Broken Hill through more amazing outback scenery. (B,L,)
